Windmill Hill Soap Box Derby has been created to help raise money for Clifford AFC Development Fund, whilst aiming to be a fun day for the teams, supporters and spectators.

2012 will be our first Derby and our hopes are that this will become an annual event. We aim for there to be around 25 soap boxes competing!

‘Fun’ or ‘Themed’ Soap Boxes are especially encouraged since they will provide the most interest to watch!

Although the official entry deadline has passed, a few places may still be available for those wishing to take part. Further details and an entry form are available at the website http://skid-marks.co.uk/

Belchford DownhillThe Belchford Downhill Challenge will be taking place on Furlongs Lane, Belchford in 2012.

The Downhill Challenge is a soapbox cart race in the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Beauty. With a 50m drop over the 650m of the course, carts reach 45mph and with the chicanes, it is very exciting.

See their web site for further details.

Start:

Bedwellty Park will see its first Soap Box Derby this September!

This will be a time-trial race with one cart at a time racing down one of our historic paths.  Categories are 12-17 year olds and Over 18s.  Awards will be for the fastest cart in each category, as well as the overall fastest cart.

This is also a novelty race based on the famous wager between Ironmasters Samuel Homfray of Tredegar and Penydarren Ironworks, and Richard Crawshay of Cyfarthfa.  Their bet was over a steam-powered locomotive carrying tons of iron over rails, and thus we will award another prize for the best locomotive-themed cart.

Little racers can also enter their teddy bears into the Bedwellty Teddy Bear Race.  The teddy bears need to race in some kind of cart too, and the winner will be established by knock-out races.  No entry form required - just bring your teddy cart and teddy bear on the day!  The fastest teddy will win a prize.

For spectators there will be food, music, and a bouncy castle for children.

If you have any questions about the Bedwellty Soap Box Derby please phone them on 01495 353370 or contact them by email.

Tetbury Wacky Races It captured the imagination of the town in 2012 as a debut event and as we promised at the time, Tetbury Lions are absolutely delighted to be able to say that the Soapbox Derby will now feature as an annual event that will take place on the first Bank Holiday Monday in May each year.

For 2013 the event will be held on Monday 6th May so all you adrenaline junkies, engineers and those wanting a family fun day out on your doorstep, make a diary entry now to make sure you do not miss an action packed day. Given the huge reaction we had last year, despite the appalling weather, we will be delivering a much bigger event in 2013 with many more soapboxes promised, a pit area in the Chipping car park that will allow crowd inspection and the time to talk with crews and drivers. There will also be offering a small selection of trade stands so you can plan ahead, be creative and buy what you need to build a super soapbox for the next year and of course the crowd favourite, a selection of pit-babes to keep you informed of proceedings.

Full details and entry forms are availabel from http://tetburywackyraces.co.uk.

East Allington Whacky Races Now in it’s 8th year, the East Allington Whacky Races comprises a go-kart or soap-box style race through the village of East Allington, with competitors racing time trial style for the prestigous Luscombe Trophy. A sophisticated timing system will time each of the karts as they race down East Allington’s steep hill, starting at the school, passing the church, the Fortescue Arms and the treacherous Fortescue corner and finishing outside the Village Hall. There are categories for adults as well as children and a variety of fun prizes.

The concept is simple and anyone can enter, all you need is a kart. The kart must have 4 wheels, a proper steering system and brakes and be deemed by the event safety advisor as being safe to race. Competitors must then sign their safety waiver, don their crash helmets and make their way to the top of the hill. The road is transformed into a Silver Stone style race track for the day, with safety barriers, straw bales, advertising banners and bunting lining the route and hundreds of eager spectators cheering the brave racers through the village.

As well as the racing there will be a whole host of stalls and attractions including a bouncy castle, face painting, gladiator style giant cotton bud duels, donkey rides, sports day style races, live music and a feast of food and drinks to keep the crowds sustained throughout the day.

Red Bull Soapbox Race London

The legendary Red Bull Soapbox Race arrives in the UK in 2013 following a nine year absence. This iconic soapbox race - the inspiration for so many community based soapbox races that have sprung up around the country since then - comes hot on the heels of sold out Soapbox races across the globe in venues as far afield as Mumbai and Hong Kong and promises to showcase the wackiest road race ever staged on UK soil.

Nerves of steel and a large dose of craziness, combine to create one hell of a ride at the Red Bull Soapbox Race. Taking place on 14th July at Alexandra Palace in London the race is now open for entrants, so,  if you’ve got a need for speed and like to stand out from the crowd, it’s time to get your carts into gear and apply (details below).

Failing that, you can stay in your shed this winter and build a Soapbox.... all the thrills and spills you can imagine - if you have a very limited imagination... Kids, Dogs, Adults, Idiots, all welcome! All Soapbox entrants win a DVD and T Shirt and the winner wins a genuine Stromberg Carburettor donated by www.stromberg-97.com. The irony of not being able to use this on a Soapbox has been pointed out... thank you. No one likes a smart arse...
